Facilities

The laboratories have been extensively equipped for the graduate courses offered by the institute. Teaching and research facilities include an Environmental Chemistry Laboratory, Environmental Microbiology Laboratory, and Special Instrumrnta Laboratory. In addition, the institute has an Environmental Planning and Design room and a library.

The Environmental Chemistry Laboratory has a wide range of analytical equipment: analytical, pH meters, a conductivity meter, spectrophotometers, an electric muffle furnace, turbidimeters, oxygen analyzers, a gel electrophoresis apparatus, an ORP monitor and controller, an ozone generator, thermostats, an automatics physi-sorption analyzer, a microwave digestion system, a germanium well detector, and a multichannel analyzer. The Environmental Microbiology Laboratory is equipped with autoclaves, a BOD incubator, a cultural incubator, a Millipore filtration apparatus, a colony counter, a shaking bath, a laminar flow hood, microscopes, ovens, a low-temperature incubator, an anaerobic incubator, a zeta potential meter, an inverted plankton microscope, an electrolytic respirometer, and epifluorescene equipment.

The Unit Operation Laboratory has biological treatment units (activated sludge, contact aeration), chemical/physical unit processes (oxidation/reduction, pH adjustment, coagulation-sedimentation, flotation, neutralization), sludge treatment facilities (sludge thickening, digestion, conditioning, dewatering-centrifugation, filter presses, belt filters), sand filters, advanced treatment units (activated carbon adsorption, ion exchange reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration), disinfection facilities, and a central control system.

The Air Pollution Control Laboratory is equipped with a CO analyzer, H2S analyzer, CO2 analyzer, SOX analyzer, SO2 analyzer, high volume sampler, particle fractionating sampler, stack sampler, noise detector, NOX analyzer, O3 analyzer, HC analyzer, high temperature type anemometer, vibrating orifice aerosol generator, and portable weather system. The Solid waste Laboratory has equipments such as: high temperature furnace, calorimeter, thermal gravimetric analyzer, TCLP analysis system, and stabilization and solidification system.

In the special instruments room, there are an atomic absorption spectrophotometer, GC, HPLC, IC, TOC analyzer, infrared spectrophotometer, elemental analyzer, UV/VIS spectrophotometer, halogen analyzer, thermal desorption system. GC/MS, FTIR, fluorescence spectrophotometer, and ICP.

The University has more than 90,00books and reports related to environmental science and engineering, water and wastewater treatment, air pollution control, instrumental analysis, environmental planning and design, solid waste management, and environmental impact assessment. Approximately 70 professional journals in environmental engineering are also available at the University's Library. The Institute library's special collection includes reports on faculty projects, student theses and dissertations, and conference proceedings.
